LUIS PARREÑO

Biography:

Luis Parreño was born in the town of Valverde del Camino in the province of Huelva (Spain) in 1970. He begins his vocal studies in the city of Córdoba with mezzo-soprano Esperanza Melguino, moving later on to the city of Seville in order to finalyze his Superior Vocalist Studies with professor Maruja Troncoso with the highest scores, currently being the only Superior Vocalist licensed baritone in the province of Huelva.

As part of his extensive vocal education, Parreño took classes with Tenor Alfredo Kraus, Baritone Iñaki Fresán, Tenor Manuel Cid and Baritone Carlos Hacar.

Alter 16 years of studies at the Seville Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel Castillo, where in addition to receiving singing classes and other musical subjects, Parreño broadens his studies by taking acting classes at the Seville Acting Superior with professors such as Antonio de Andrés and Concha de Tábora, daughter of the renowned Salvador Tábora, receiving interpretation, lyric scenery and body language classes.

In 2001 he records a Christmas songs album with singer-songwriter Chili titled “Valverde en Navidad”. In 2005 he records a documentary for French TV station International Classical Channel Arte about the myth of Carmen and the influence on Andalusian culture of this Opera. In this documentary Parreño represents the new generation of Andalusian lyric singers.

Between 2000 and 2005 Parreño performs with prestigious orchestras as a soloist in chappels and operas such as Réquiem Mass by W.A. Mozart, Passion according to S. Mateo by J.S. Bach, Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart, I Puritani by V. Bellini, Tosca by G. Puccini, Réquiem by G- Fauré, Carmina Burana by C. Orff and El Retablo de Maese Pedro by M. de Falla.

Abroad he performs in countries such as Israel, France and Germany.

In 1987 Parreño performs at the Pareja Obregón Foundation in Madrid for H.R.H. Mrs. Maria de las Mercedes de Borbón y Orleáns.

In 1990 he sings in the town of San Lucar la Mayor in the province of Huelva for H.R.H. Mrs. Esperanza de Borbón y Orleáns.

In 1991 he performs in the town of Moguer in the province of Huelva at the presence of the Duchess of Alba.

In 1996 he sings at the re-inauguration of the Villamarta Theater in the city of Jerez de la Frontera in the province of Cadiz, at the presence of the Duque of Lugo.

In 2002 he sings at the inauguration of the Theatre of Valverde del Camino in the province of Huelva, at the presence of the Ministry of Culture Mrs. Carmen Calvo and the President of the Junta de Andalucía Mr. Manuel Chaves González.

In May of 2004 Parreño is invited to be part of the National Choir at the wedding of H.R.H. Prince and Princess of Asturias.

In June 2005, following and order of the Culture Ministry of the Junta de Andalucía as part of the program El Quijote at the halls celebrating the 400 anniversary of El Quijote, Parreño interprets the opera El Retablo de Maese Pedro by Manuel de Falla in which he plays the main role as Don Quijote, obtaining great critics for it.

In recent years Parreño has been performing a series of recitals all over Andalusia accompanied by his pianist Manuel Fernández, highlighting the one that took place in September 2005 at the XLV Vintage Festivity in the town of La Palma del Condado in the province of Huelva (declared as national interest), where among the invited celebrities there were Mr. Manuel Torreiglesias from the TV show “Saber Vivir” in TVE1 and Mr. Carlos Dávila journalist of the political table of Mrs. Maria Teresa Campos in Antena 3TV.

In December 2005 Parreño was awarded with the Valverde Citizen of the year in Arts and Culture VIII Edition by the Valverde del Camino City Hall and the Huelva County Council.
